Why I Started My Digital Marketing Company on Disability
Stephanie McClain - Disabled Digital Marketer

In 2011, I was 29 years old and started collecting social security disability. I felt ashamed because no one of my friends my age were receiving this type of income but myself and all of my friends were working great paying jobs.

At the time, I was attending Gwinnett Technical College for web design and development and I was failing because of mental health conditions. I was in college taking out all of these student loans and getting into so much student loan debt.

After getting on academic probation because of my mental health disabilities, I was approved for social security disability. I transferred colleges and in 2012, I graduated from the American InterContinental University of Atlanta with an associate's degree in internet marketing, web, and graphic design.

After graduating, I started looking for digital marketing jobs and I couldn't get hired because I had "no experience" in my fields of study. I gave up looking for work in 2013 and started to work several retail, warehouse, and customer service jobs that I hated. I was absolutely miserable and in so much pain from standing up daily while working at those retail jobs.

I Wasn't Able to Keep a Job

Being that I'm on social security disability, there is an income limit to the amount of money I can make while receiving a check, so I went back to working part-time jobs at grocery stores, retail establishments, and warehouses.

After getting foot surgery in 2016, I couldn't stand up and walk around jobs for hours because of a foot injury I had as a young teenager, so I decided to make a business move. I decided that I wanted to start a side hustle from home so I started making video content (Youtube) and I would post my content on social media.

Last year (2021) after working my last part-time job at Lowes Home Improvement, I decided to start my own business as a digital marketer, infopreneur, and affiliate marketer. In 2019, I went to a FREE digital marketing online training program called Acaduim and learned everything about digital marketing. After a few apprenticeship programs, I decided that I didn't want to work for ANY employer because I feel like I'm a burden to employers because of my medical conditions.

So Here's What I Decided.....

In January of this year, 2022 I decided to start my digital marketing company, Afrinubi Solutions, LLC Instead of working for someone else, I decided to work hard for myself because jobs can't afford my skillset and don't pay what I'm worth.

So You May Ask, Are You Still Receiving Social Security Disability?

And the answer is yes... The income that I make gets reported and as a business owner, I have to pay taxes, and I have profits and losses which are also reported to the Social Security Administration. Yeah, so Social Security knows about my income but here's the truth, as a 40-year-old, this income is not enough money to live off of and once I become a millionaire, I will let this check go! Bye-Bye!
