In this blog, I will share my story with you on how I got my unsubsidized and subsidized student loans discharged because of my disabilities.
Well before I explain, I just want to share my story. In 1995, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at the age of 15. I've been in and out of mental hospitals and psychotherapy all of my life. I struggled most of my early adult life working jobs battling with mental illness at work. I've had over 20 jobs and for each job, I was either fired, laid off, or quit, because I couldn't get accommodations at work. There were days when I would cry at work because of my depression and experienced workplace bullying because of being mentally ill.
My Life With Bipolar and The Struggles I Encountered
Living with bipolar has been difficult. I grew up with no health insurance, going to mental health clinics in Atlanta; and paying sliding scale fees just to get medication to maintain my mental health.
In 2011, I was 28 years old and I was fired from a full-time job during that time I was a college student in my last year. I was on academic probation because I had a hard time learning because of my mental illness. I was going to school crying in class and was unable to function and learn because of my bipolar depression.
I Was Finally Approved For Social Security Disability Income
In late 2011, I was finally approved for SSDI through the Social Security Administration. In 2012, I graduated from college with my degree and started looking for a job in the field of my study, and couldn't find anything! I was on Social Security and trying to get off of it. I was trying to get off of DIsability after getting less than $1,1100.00 a month. during that time, I was optimistic about getting a job in digital marketing and I would go on several interviews and not get hired. Instead, I stopped looking for work and got into network marketing selling other companies' products until I was caught up in a pyramid scheme.
